What
is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used
medical procedures in the world. Originating in China thousands of years ago, the term acupuncture describes a family of procedures involving stimulation of anatomical
points on the body by a variety of techniques. The practice of acupuncture
incorporates medical traditions from China, Japan, Korea, and other countries.
The most commonly used acupuncture technique involves penetrating
the skin with very fine, stainless steel needles not much thicker than a hair. The needle may be further stimulated by burning herbs (moxa) or electrical stimulation.
Is
acupuncture safe?
Very
few complications from the use of acupuncture have been reported in
light of the millions of people treated each year and the number of acupuncture
needles used.
Practitioners use
a new set of disposable needles taken from a sealed package for each patient. The procedures used in our office aim to minimise any risk and ensure your safety.
